ATTIVITA DI RICERCA
    Sviluppo di nuove tecniche analitico-numeriche, e implementazione di codici di calcolo, per la soluzione di problemi di diffrazione da strutture periodiche. Studio di materiali naturali ed artificiali, in particolare nanostrutturati, loro utilizzo nell’ambito di sistemi elettronici per applicazioni a vari settori quali la biomedica, la chimica, l’energetica, la fisica, le telecomunicazioni. Progetto di componenti ottici diffrattivi innovativi, di superfici selettive in frequenza, di cristalli fotonici e metamateriali a banda elettromagnetica proibita.
    Sviluppo di nuove tecniche analitico-numeriche, e implementazione di codici di calcolo, per la soluzione di problemi di scattering elettromagnetico, diretto e inverso, da oggetti dielettrici e conduttori immersi in strutture multistrato.
    Sintesi, realizzazione e caratterizzazione sperimentale di antenne e componenti passivi in guida d’onda e strutture planari e integrate innovativi, per applicazioni a microonde, onde millimetriche e sub-millimetriche e frequenze ottiche.
    Attività di ricerca sul tema del calcolo e della misura dei livelli di esposizione a campi elettrici, magnetici ed elettromagnetici, per la salvaguardia e la sicurezza della salute umana. Attività di test e controllo sull’inquinamento elettromagnetico ambientale, valutazione del rischio di esposizione ai campi elettromagnetici nei luoghi di lavoro. Studio di tecniche di bonifica e progetto di materiali schermanti innovativi. Studio di sensori e dispositivi per applicazione mediche e biologiche.
    Attività di ricerca in ambito georadar: progetto di sensori innovativi multi-antenna e multi-polarizzazione; miglioramento delle tecniche di data-processing per la stima di parametri geometrici e fisici di interesse; sviluppo di protocolli e linee guida per un impiego efficace del georadar in ingegneria civile e per il rilevamento di mine antipersona; interazione del georadar con altre tecniche di indagine non invasive.
    Sviluppo di tecniche elettromagnetiche per il riscaldamento di plasmi di idrogeno da impiegarsi nella ricerca sull’energia da fusione nucleare: studio dell’interazione tra onde elettromagnetiche e plasma, progetto di componenti in guida d’onda e di lanciatori a radiofrequenza e microonde in grado di operare con potenze elevate e in ambiente elettromagnetico “complesso” caratterizzato da mezzi a bassa rigidità dielettrica (plasma di bordo) e presenza di strutture di varia natura quali altri lanciatori, sonde, elementi di confinamento del plasma, ecc..
    Il Laboratorio svolge inoltre attività di supporto alla didattica a corsi del S.S.D. Campi elettromagnetici (09/F1 ex-ING-INF/02).
